NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will look to continue its momentum from last weekend into a pair of matches this week, as the Blue Hens head south to face UNCW Thursday before taking on Elon Saturday.
Delaware, which is 10-11 overall and 3-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, will take on the Seahawks Thursday at 7 p.m. in Hanover Hall and the Phoenix on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
The Blue Hens currently sit in fifth place in the CAA standings, following crucial home victories over William & Mary and James Madison last weekend. Delaware dispatched the Tribe in three sets during a throwback match at the Carpenter Sports Building last Friday, before edging the Dukes in a five-set thriller on Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center.
UD junior Katie Hillman posted double-doubles during both wins, leading the team with 3.25 kills per set while ranking second with 24 digs. Alex Swann added 2.88 kills per set and a team-high nine blocks, while Chandler Bryant contributed 22 kills while hitting .356 on the weekend.
Julia Anderson handed out 93 assists for a 11.62 set average, while Taylor Hollingsworth led the defensive effort with 35 digs. Hollingsworth currently ranks second in the CAA with 4.82 digs per set, while Bryant is fifth with a .303 attack percentage.
UNCW enters Wednesday's match against College of Charleston with a 14-5 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Seahawks have won three consecutive matches, and currently reside in third place in the league standings. Morgan Kline paces the Seahawks with 3.25 kills per set, while Meredith Peacock leads the CAA with a 1.50 blocks average.
The Phoenix are 5-16 overall during its first year in the league, and at 0-5 in the CAA are the only squad without a league victory. Sydney Busa is averaging 2.51 kills per set for Elon, while Morgan Maner is contributing 3.43 digs per set.
Delaware is 23-5 all-time against UNCW, although the Seahawks captured both meetings a year ago. Saturday's match will be the first ever contest between the Blue Hens and Elon.
