Blue Hen Volleyball Wins Third Straight With Impressive 3-0 Victory at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team posted its most impressive victory of the 2014 season on Thursday night as the Blue Hens won their third straight match with a 3-0 triumph over UNCW at Hanover Hall.
Delaware, which improved to 11-11 overall and 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, took the match by set scores of 26-24, 25-18, 25-22. The Seahawks, who entered the night having won four straight and were coming off a straight set victory over College of Charleston on Wednesday, dropped to 15-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.
UD junior Katie Hillman had another strong match, leading the Blue Hens with 13 kills while adding 13 digs to record her third consecutive double-double. Sophomore Autumn Jenkins narrowly missed a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, while junior Chandler Bryant contributed nine kills while hitting a team-best .294 on the night.
Julia Anderson dished out 36 assists to go with nine digs during the win, while fellow sophomore Taylor Hollingsworth recorded a match-high 24 digs.
Delaware climbed back to the .500 mark with the victory, while the Blue Hens' three-match winning streak ties for the team's longest of the year. UD will go for its fourth straight win on Saturday with a 7 p.m. match at Elon.
Meredith Peacock led UNCW with 11 kills and a .588 attack percentage, but Delaware limited the Seahawks to just a .099 percentage for the match.
The Blue Hens trailed for most of the first set, but finally pulled even at 23-23 following a pair of Seahawks errors. UNCW won the next point, but Delaware responded with three straight to take the opening set. The teams were knotted at 16-16 in the second frame but the Blue Hens exploded by winning nine of the next 11 points, putting the set away on a Daria Robinson kill.
Delaware used a five-point surge in the third stanza to go in front 15-10, and never trailed from there. The Seahawks eventually pulled within two at 24-22, before Jenkins slammed a kill to put the match away.
