Hens Kick Off CAA Play With Weekend Series at JMU and William & Mary

NEWARK, Del. – Colonial Athletic Association action begins this weekend for the reigning CAA champion University of Delaware field hockey team as the Blue Hens travel to James Madison (7 p.m. Friday) and William & Mary (Noon Sunday).

LAST TIME OUT
Juniors Allie Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) recorded goals as the Blue Hens held on for a 2-1 victory over Fairfield last Sunday afternoon.
· UD has seven defensive saves through 10 games played, the most since 2010 when the Hens posted seven in 18 games.
· Nine Blue Hens have scored at least one goal this season while 10 have tallied at least one point.
· Patzner leads the Hens with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Patzner continues to climb in the Delaware record books and has 70 career points (28g, 14a), which is good for 15thin UD history. Lauren Baugher (1992-95) is 14with 71 points (27g, 17a) while Katie Evans (2003-06) is 13th with 72 points (21g, 30a)
· Redshirt freshman Fran Orella (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made the first start of her career between the pipes for UD Sunday against Fairfield and came out strong with three saves in 70 minutes for the win.
Rolf van de Kerkhofis in his fourth season at the helm of the Blue Hens. Van de Kerkhof, the 2013 NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year and CAA Co-Coach of the Year is 39-33 (.542) at Delaware.
· James Madison rehired Christy Morgan as the Dukes' head coach in January 2014 after spending the previous three seasons as the associate head coach at Wake Forest. Morgan originally joined JMU in 1991 and spent nine seasons as the head coach. During her tenure, Morgan led the Dukes to five NCAA tournament appearances in addition to the 1995 CAA championship.
· Tess Ellis is in her 19thseason as a William & Mary coach, but just her second as the head coach after previously serving as an assistant and associate head coach.
ABOUT JAMES MADISON
The Dukes are coming off of a 4-0 loss to No. 19 Old Dominion and are 6-2 on the season. JMU's lone other loss came to No. 13 Northwestern by a score of 2-1 in overtime. James Madison leads the CAA with 2.83 goals per game while juniors Loes Stijntjes and Taylor West are front-runners in league scoring with 1.00 and 0.75 goals per game, respectively. Stijntjes is also first with 2.12 points per contest while West is third with 1.75 per. Senior Hannah George has started all eight games between the pipes for the Dukes and has collected 23 saves (.639) while allowing 1.82 goals per game.
ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY
The Tribe has won two consecutive games after dropping five straight and are currently 3-7 on the year. Last weekend, W&M defeated Appalachian State, 8-4, before shutting out Davidson, 2-0. Freshman Erin Menges was named the CAA Rookie of the Week after tallying five points (2g, 1a) against the Mountaineers. Junior Pippin Saunders is the team-leader in points (10) and goals (four) while senior Emma Clifton has dished out a team-best three assists. Junior Meredith Savage has played all 711:16 minutes in the cage for the Tribe and has collected 46 saves while giving up 3.05 goals per game.
