RICHMOND, Va. – After a week that saw him record one assist and tally two game-winning goals, Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Monday.
The sophomore scored game-winning goals in both of Delaware's wins last week. In the Blue Hens victory over Hofstra, Delgado scored with 16 seconds left in double overtime to clinch Delaware's 2-1 victory Wednesday.
Delgado gave the Blue Hens a 2-0 advantage midway through the second half at William and Mary Saturday in UD's 3-1 win over the Tribe. He leads the CAA with 10 goals and six game-winning scores this season.
This is the second time Delgado has received CAA Player of the Week honors. The sophomore also won the award for the week of Sept. 1-8.
Delgado shared player of the week honors with Elon senior Jason Waterman. Freshman William Eskay of William and Mary was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
After going through a tough stretch where the Blue Hens lost four out of six games, Delaware has rebounded and won two games in a row to sit in third place in the CAA standings.
The Blue Hens will return to action this Wednesday at UD hosts Northeastern at 3 p.m. at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
