PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware men's soccer team will conclude its road schedule Wednesday as the Blue Hens face Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
The matchup between the Dragons and Blue Hens will take place at 7 p.m. at Drexel's Vidas Field.
The Blue Hens (10-5-1, 3-2-1 CAA) currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the CAA standings with two games remaining on the schedule. The top six in the CAA standings at the conclusion of play Sunday qualify for the CAA Tournament, with the top two seeds earning a first round bye.
The standings could shuffle quite a bit in the final week of the season as just three points separate third and seventh place.
Delaware is winless in its last two games, including a tie with last place College of Charleston Saturday. The Blue Hens have gone to overtime in four of their last six games and have a 2-1-1 record in those contests.
Ben Asante has scored goals in each of the last two games giving him five goals for the season. The senior is also tied for the team lead in assists with four this season.
Guillermo Delgado leads the Blue Hens with a team and CAA-high 11 goals this season. Joe Dipre is second on the team with five goals.
Drexel (5-8-3, 1-4-1 CAA) comes into Wednesday's contest looking for its second CAA victory of the season. After defeating James Madison 2-1, the Dragons dropped games to Elon and Hofstra.
John Grosh, Michele Pataia, and Jameson Detweller lead the Dragons with two goals each this season and Grosh has a team-high five assists.
Wednesday will be the 50th meeting between the Blue Hens and Dragons. The first meeting between the two programs took place in 1947 and Drexel leads the all-time series 24-18-7. Drexel defeated Delaware 2-1 in the regular season last year and eliminated UD in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament with a win in penalty kicks. Delaware has not beaten Drexel since a 2-1 victory in 2010.
