NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team opens a critical week on Wednesday when the Blue Hens welcome Colonial Athletic Association leading Hofstra to the Bob Carpenter Center for a 7 p.m. match with the Pride.
The match is the first of three home contests this week for Delaware, which also hosts College of Charleston Friday at 7 p.m. and Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Blue Hens are currently 12-12 overall this season, and sit in fifth place in the CAA standings with a 5-4 league mark. Hofstra is 21-3 on the year and leads the conference with a 9-1 CAA record.
The Pride posted a four-set victory over Delaware in the teams' first meeting this season on Oct. 5 in Hempstead. Kelsie Wills led Hofstra with 17 kills during that match, while Nuria Lopes de Silva contributed 11 on the day. Alexa Swann paced UD with 15 kills and five blocks, Katie Hillman added 12 kills while hitting .367, and Autumn Jenkins was the third Blue Hen in double figures with 11 kills on the day.
Hillman leads Delaware and ranks ninth in the CAA with 3.05 kills per set, while sophomore libero Taylor Hollingsworth is second in the league with a 5.05 digs average. Wills, Hofstra's career kills leader, is averaging a league-best 4.41 kills per set on the year, while Hannah Klemm leads the CAA with 11.50 assists per set.
The match will be the first of three straight “Trick or Treat With Delaware Athletics” nights, which are taking place all week. UD fans ages 12 and younger in costume are invited to trick or treat at the BCC and receive a coupon book full of Blue Hen surprises. Kids who arrive in costume will also receive free admission to the match.
