Although Delaware, Elon, UNCW, James Madison, and Hofstra have already clinched a postseason spot, seeding is far from set as four points separate first place and seventh place in the CAA standings. Depending on this weekend's outcomes, Delaware could be as high as the No. 1 seed or as low as the No. 5 seed for postseason play.
If the Blue Hens were to win Sunday, it would be the first time in program history that the Hens have earned the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament.
Ian HennessyThe Blue Hens' offense has powered UD's success this year. Delaware (11-5-1, 4-2-1 CAA) leads the CAA in shots (236), goals (38), and assists (28). UD is the only team in the CAA that is averaging over two goals per game.
Guillermo Delgado leads the Blue Hens and CAA with 11 goals on the season. Joe Dipre leads UD and is second in the CAA with six assists this season, including a two assist performance in Delaware's 4-0 win over Drexel Wednesday.
With a win Sunday, Elon will win the CAA regular season title in its first season in the conference. The Phoenix (9-4-4, 4-1-2) comes into Sunday's matchup having not lost in their last six games. James Brace leads the Phoenix with six goals this season, while four Elon players have registered a team-high two assists.
Before the game, the University of Delaware will conduct the official dedication of Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium. The Grants generously made a $1.5 million commitment to support renovations to the facility. This gift is the largest single donation made by an individual or couple to be allocated in support of a UD athletics facility project. The stadium has undergone extensive renovations, including the addition of new bleachers and a press box.
The Blue Hens will also honor seniors Borja Barbero, Bill Boyer, Tobias Müller, Roberto Giménez, Kyle Nuel, Ben Asante, and Kyle Bruno, who will be playing their final regular season home game.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., while the first ever meeting between the Blue Hens and Phoenix will take place at 1 p.m. at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
