Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Hens to 4-1 Win at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette College scored first, but the University of Delaware field hockey team rallied with four unanswered goals to close out non-conference play with a 4-1 victory over the Leopards at Rappolt Field Friday evening.
In total, the Blue Hens (11-7) received points from six different players on the night.
Junior Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) led all scorers with three points off her 10th goal of the season and an assist.
Kelsey Mead gave LC (6-11) the 1-0 advantage in the fifth minute, but the Blue Hens notched two goals in the first half to hold the 2-1 halftime lead.
Sophomore Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) tied things in the 19th minute with her 10th goal of the season before freshman Maggie Delp (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) collected the game-winning goal, her second goal of the season, in the 25th minute. Freshman Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) assisted on Peet's goal while Patzner was able to connect with Delp for the assist.
Jacki CoveleskiUD freshman Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) earned the win with one save.
Lafayette's Jessica Deutsch collected six saves in the loss while Jenna Seybert tallied four defensive saves.
“Tonight was a beautiful team performance and perhaps our best passing possession game thus far in the season. The experiences gained and performance displayed today should put us in the position to be confidence and excited to compete against Drexel Sunday for our second CAA regular season title in as many years and to secure home field advantage for the CAA Tournament next weekend.”

· Delaware outshot Lafayette, 18-3, and held a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners.
· The Blue Hens have won four straight against Lafayette and lead the all-time series by a record of 17-11-2.
· Delaware has reached the 11-win mark for the 23rd time in program history and fifth since 2001.
· With a goal this evening, junior Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) continues to lead the team with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. She now has 86 career points (33g, 20a) and passed Beth Manley (1983-86; 84 points) in the career record books to move into 11th place all-time. Juli Byrd (1998-01) is 10th with 89 points (39g, 11a).
· Patzner is also tied for seventh in school history alongside current assistant coach Missy Woodie (2007-10) and Rachel Barger (1996-99) with 20 career assists.
