University of Delaware Returns Home to Face CAA Rival James Madison Wednesday

Sophomore Guillermo Delgado leads UD (8-3, CAA 1-0) in both goals (eight) and points (16). Delgado's eight-goal total ranks him first in the CAA and tied for fourth nationally. The sophomore scored Delaware's game-winning goal in Saturday's victory at UNCW and now has four game-winning goals this season.
Delgado is the catalyst of a Blue Hens offense that leads the CAA in goals, assists, and points. Delaware has also been stout on the defensive end as UD also leads the conference in shutouts with five on the season.
“When you start off the conference beating a nationally-ranked team on the road, it helps build confidence,” said University of Delaware coach Ian Hennessy. “However, we are very mindful and have the greatest respect for the power of the CAA in our sport, which sends so many teams annually to the NCAA. JMU has a rich soccer history and our rivalry with them is unique in all sports among CAA members, so this will be a tough game for us.”
James Madison comes into Wednesday's game with a 4-4-2 record and is coming off back-to-back games against ranked opponents. The Dukes tied No. 22 Furman 0-0 and lost to No. 19 Virginia 2-1 in overtime last week.
Wednesday will be JMU's first CAA game of the season. James Madison head coach Tom Martin is in his 29th season at the school and has compiled a 353-160-55 career record.
Four different James Madison players lead the team with two goals each, while Josh Grant leads the Dukes with five points and goalkeeper Kyle Morton has notched a team-high 31 saves.
This will be the 18th meeting between the Dukes and Blue Hens. The first game between the two programs took place in 1991 and James Madison leads the all-time series 11-4-3.
Delaware won the last meeting between the two schools 2-1 in 2013 at JMU. Three of the last four meetings between UD and James Madison have gone to overtime. Wednesday's game is the first time the Blue Hens have hosted the Dukes since JMU”s last win in the series in 2011.
Delaware received votes in this week's NSCAA Top 25 poll and are ranked No. 26 in the College Soccer News poll and No. 21 in this week's Top Drawer poll.
The matchup between UD and James Madison is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the University of Delaware's Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
