NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team finally returns home this weekend following seven consecutive matches on the road, as the Blue Hens host CAA rivals William & Mary and James Madison.
Delaware will face the Tribe in its former home at the Carpenter Sports Building in a throwback match Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. Barbara Viera Court in the CSB was the home of the Blue Hens through the 2011 season, after which UD moved down to the Bob Carpenter Center.
Music from various decades will be played throughout the match, while Delaware volleyball alumni in attendance will be recognized during intermission. Additionally Viera, a UD Athletics Hall of Fame member who guided the Blue Hens for 27 years, will be the Blue Hens' honorary coach for the night.
Fans are able to purchase tickets at the door for that match (cash only). Seating is limited and subject to availability. Doors open at 6 p.m.; standing room only will be offered when the bleachers are full.
The address for GPS is 26 North College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716. Complimentary parking is available in Lot 19 (see map). Additional parking is also available in the Trabant Garage at a cost of $2 per hour. All other University lots require a standard UD parking permit.
Sunday the Blue Hens return to the Bob Carpenter Center for a 1 p.m. contest with the Dukes, while a postgame autograph session featuring the entire team will take place following the match.
Delaware enters Friday with an 8-11 overall record, and the Blue Hens are 1-3 in the conference following a win at Northeastern and a loss at Hofstra last weekend. Chandler Bryant blasted a career-high 20 kills during the victory over the Huskies while Katie Hillman added 17 for UD, which hit .316 for the match.
Alexa Swann contributed 10 kills vs. Northeastern before adding a team-high 15 against the Pride, while Hillman again reached double figures with 12 kills. Julia Anderson dished out 99 assists during the weekend, while Taylor Hollingsworth posted 35 digs.
William & Mary enters Friday's match with a 5-13 overall record, including a 1-3 mark in conference play. The Tribe dropped its first three CAA matches before defeating Elon in four sets last Saturday. James Madison brings a 10-7 overall mark and a 2-2 CAA record into its match at Towson on Friday. The Dukes kicked off league action with wins over William & Mary and Elon, before falling at home to UNCW and College of Charleston last weekend.
Delaware is 19-11 against William & Mary in school history, and has won eight of the last nine meetings between the schools. Last season the Blue Hens and Tribe split a pair of five-set matches. UD is 25-20 all-time vs. James Madison, although the Dukes took a pair of four-set matches from the Blue Hens a year ago.
Both matches this weekend will be steamed online at www.bluehens.com, while Friday's match will feature throwback graphics.
