University of Delaware Volleyball Back in Win Column With 3-0 Home Victory Over Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. -- Blue Hen sophomore Alexa Swann tied her career-high with 16 kills while junior Katie Hillman added 10 as the University of Delaware volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak by posting a 3-0 victory over Northeastern Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware took the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 as the Blue Hens improved to 13-14 overall and an even 6-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association. UD needs just one more victory to clinch a berth in the CAA Tournament on Nov. 21-23. Northeastern dropped its third straight contest, falling to 10-16 overall and 2-10 in league play.
Swann posted a match-best 16 kills on 28 swings while committing only three errors as she hit .464 for the match. Hillman contributed 10 hills against just one attack error, while Jill Meyers had six kills on day. Julia Anderson handed out 35 assists during the afternoon, while Taylor Hollingsworth made 19 digs.
Chandler Bryant had five blocks on the day while Swann added four, as Delaware enjoyed a 9-5 block advantage over the Huskies.
Brigitte Burcescu and Taylor Reiter each led Northeastern with eight kills, while Kristen Walding dished out 25 assists and Natalie Skiba recorded 18 digs.
Delaware never trailed during the opening set, going up by as many as eight points before putting the set away on a Swann kill. The Blue Hens jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the second stanza, and again led from there. The Huskies never got closer than three points the rest of the frame, as Delaware took a two-set advantage into the intermission.
The squads were tied five times early in the third set, but the Blue Hens used a four-point run to go in front 11-7 and were not threatened from there. Delaware closed the match by winning 13 of the final 20 points, including Anderson's kill that ended the contest.
