Matt Haney who earned first team honors in 2005 and 2006 and third team honors in 2004, and Kyle Davis, who was a second team pick in 2009.
A second-year starter on defense, Sampson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) recorded one goal and one assist this season and anchored a defense that allowed just 1.06 goals per game and posted seven shutouts. Sampson maintains a 3.98 grade point average with a computer engineering major.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized as an Academic All-American by CoSIDA,” said Sampson. “I want to thank my parents for always supporting me and challenging me to push myself. I also would like to thank the University of Delaware for providing me with the opportunity to excel academically. Without both of them this would not have been possible.”
Sampson is on the University of Delaware's Dean's List and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll in both his freshman and sophomore years at Delaware. The midfielder conducted academic research for Delaware in the summer of 2014 and won the UD Presidential Achievement Xerox Scholarship.
In addition to his academic and athletic responsibilities, Sampson has volunteered as a youth math tutor and with the Tony Sanneh Foundation, which helps raise funds for students with brain cancer.
"Collectively, the men's soccer team averages near the Dean's List with our studies,” said University of Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy. “It is remarkable group that continues to shine on the field and in the classroom. Ben best exemplifies what our squad is about and is another in the line of Academic All-Americans who have shone for our men's soccer program and our university."
On the field, the junior started all 20 games for the Blue Hens and added one goal and one assist during the 2014 season. Sampson's performance helped lead UD to a 13-6-1 record and its first-ever CAA regular season title. Delaware advanced to the CAA title game before falling to James Madison 1-0 and just missed out on earning at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
