RICHMOND, Va. – Following one of the best stretches of his career, Kyle Bruno of the University of Delaware received some individual accolades for his play last week as the senior forward was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week Monday.
Bruno (New Castle, Del./William Penn) led Delaware to a pair of CAA victories during the week as the Blue Hens defeated Drexel and Elon to capture the CAA regular season title.
He tallied one goal and one assist in Delaware's 4-0 victory over Drexel Wednesday and then played a crucial role in Delaware (12-5-1, 5-2-1 CAA) clinching its first-ever CAA regular season title on Sunday.
Bruno scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 38th minute of the first half against Elon as UD snapped the Phoenix's seven-match unbeaten streak and secured the top seed for the upcoming CAA Tournament to be held at UD's newly-dedicated Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium on Nov. 14-16. The Blue Hens will host the winner of the Elon vs. Northeastern quarterfinal matchup (Nov. 8) on Nov. 14 in the semifinals.
A business management major at Delaware, Bruno has now recorded three goals and three assists this season and has tallied six goals for his career.
UNCW's Jamie Dell was also named CAA Player of the Week while Elon's Chad Craig received CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
