College Team Academic Award Honorees
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In addition to excelling on the soccer field this season, the University of Delaware men's soccer team's prowess in the classroom was recognized recently as the squad was one of the NSCAA Team Academic Award honorees for the 2013-14 academic year.
The Blue Hens, who went 13-6-1 and won their first Colonial Athletic Association regular season title in 2014, was one of 282 schools that established a team grade point average of 3.0 and higher during the 2013-14.
UD accrued a 3.23 grade point average during the 2013-14 academic calendar and joins fellow CAA members Elon, Drexel, Hofstra, UNCW, Northeastern, and William & Mary on the list. This is the second year in a row the Blue Hens have received this academic accolade.
Ian Hennessy. “Considering the number of engineers and challenging majors we have on the team, to have a collective GPA close to Dean's list (3.3), and one of the highest in Division I soccer, is a great reflection on not only our students, but on our academic support staff and of course the wonderful faculty we have here at this great learning institution.”Delaware's Ben Sampson received individual accolades for his performance in the classroom last week as the junior was selected to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American third team.
