CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Delaware women's basketball team held things close throughout the entire game, but the University of Cincinnati put the pressure on in the waning minutes as the Blue Hens fell, 67-59, Saturday evening at Fifth Third Arena.
Sophomores Erika Brown (Haledon, N.J./Paterson Kennedy) and Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) led Delaware with 13 points apiece while junior Courtni Green (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) added 11 points in the loss.
Junior Jade Clark (Ashburn, Va./St. John's College) guided the Hens by tying a career-high with nine rebounds.
Jardine tied the game for UD at 6:27 with a jumper to put things at 55-55, but the Bearcats (2-8) responded with a 12-0 run to go up, 67-55, with 1:12 remaining.
Senior Stephanie Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and redshirt sophomore Jodi Salyer (Roanoke, Va./Staunton River) tallied baskets in the final minute, but it was too little too late for the Blue Hens (4-6).
Tina Martin“You can make as many excuses as you want, but the bottom line is we lost a basketball game. It's tough because with a young team things can turn quickly. We have to get to the point for this young group that it tastes really bad for them to lose. We want to win these games, but you have to hate losing. It's frustrating. I feel this team is getting there, but we haven't gotten over the hump yet.”
