LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Two-time University of Delaware men's soccer All-American Guillermo Delgado was honored again Tuesday as he earned a spot on the Best XI Team selected by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Delgado was one of two forwards named to the third team, one of just six forwards honored overall, and one of 33 NCAA Division I players honored on the three teams. Earlier this month Delgado earned third team All-American honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
A 5-8 sophomore from Tres Cantos, Spain (Jose Luis Sampedro HS), Delgado led the Blue Hen
men's soccer team to a 13-6-1 record, the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title, and ranked among the nation's most productive goal-scorers this fall.
Delgado, who earlier this year was named the CAA Player of the Year and a first team NSCAA All-Midwest Region selection, ranked among the national leaders in scoring this season as he tallied 12 goals and dished out 2 assists for 26 points.
He ranked No. 13 among all NCAA Division I players in goals per game (0.63) and No. 21 in points per game (1.37) and his six game-winning goals ranked tied for third overall.
He led an offense that averaged 2.05 goals per game to lead the CAA and rank No. 8 in the nation. The Hens scored in 17 of their 20 games and tallied two or more goals 14 times. Delaware ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring in 2013 when the Blue Hens averaged 2.25 per game on the way to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
In just two seasons at Delaware, Delgado has scored 27 goals in 39 total games and ranks tied for third all-time at Delaware in total goals with two seasons left to play.
Top Drawer, one of the nation's most popular websites for soccer, selected Georgetown defender Joshua Yaro as its Player of the Year and UCLA standout Abu Danladi as its Freshman of the Year. Delgado was the lone CAA player selected to either of the teams.
