RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior Joe Dipre was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 14.
The Betchworth, England (London Freeman's School) native tallied two game-winning goals last week as the Blue Hens were able to defeat Seton Hall and St. Peter's to move their record to 6-0 and match the best start in program history.
“I am very proud to be named the CAA Player of the Week,” said Dipre. “It was a good week for me and I hope to continue this good form into this weekend when we head to the west coast to take on two strong soccer programs in California and Stanford.”
The junior midfielder scored from 30 yards out in the 73rd minute as the Blue Hens triumphed over Seton Hall Wednesday and netted a goal from 15 yards away early in the second half in the 2-1 victory over St. Peter's Sunday.
Dipre has scored a goal in four consecutive games and is currently second on the team in goals (four), shots (17) and points (nine).
“I am delighted for Joe, a delightful young man. It couldn't happen to a nicer person,” said University of Delaware head coach Ian Hennessey. “This week has been a historic week for the program in the national polls, ahead of our Stanford and Cal trip, and to celebrate the week with this award and his recent goal of such high quality makes it all the sweeter for us all here associated with the University of Delaware soccer program."
Delaware is currently ranked No. 11 in this week's Top Drawer national poll, while the Blue Hens come in at No. 16 in the College Soccer News rankings. The updated NSCAA Top 25 poll will be announced on Tuesday.
Freshman defender Brayden Smith of UNCW was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
The Blue Hens will be in action this weekend as they travel to the west coast to take on a pair of Pac 12 foes in California and Stanford.
