Delaware Volleyball Can?t Get Attack Going in 3-1 Non-Conference Home Defeat To Villanova

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team struggled to get its offense in gear for most of the night as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-1 non-conference match to Villanova Tuesday at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Wildcats, who snapped a four-match losing streak while improving to 5-7 on the season, claimed the victory by set scores of 28-26, 25-21, 15-25, 25-22.
Delaware, which entered the evening having won four of its last five contests, dropped to 7-5 on the year.
Autumn Jenkins (at left) led the Blue Hen attack with 10 kills on the night, while Katie Hillman added nine and Alexa Swann contributed eight. However Delaware posted just a .144 hitting percentage, the team's lowest since the third match of the season vs. Rhode Island.
Erin Layne recorded her third double-double of the season with 19 assists and a career-high 19 digs, while Taylor Hollingsworth (below) paced the defensive effort with 21 digs. Swann also had six blocks on the night for Delaware, while Chandler Bryant chipped in with five blocks to go with six kills.
Lauren Carpenter slammed 23 kills for the Wildcats, who picked up the four-set win despite hitting only .132 on the night. Emma Pettit handed out 31 assists for Villanova, while Allison Fitzgerald posted a match-best 24 digs.
Bonnie KennyDelaware returns to action this Friday and Saturday when the Blue Hens face Sacred Heart, South Florida and Pittsburgh at the Pitt Panther Invitational.

• Jenkins reached double digit kills for the sixth time this year
• Jenkins, who also had 11 digs, recorded her third double-double of the season
• Delaware held a slim 11-10 advantage in blocks
• The Wildcats and Blue Hens are now even at 21-21 in the all-time series
