RICHMOND, Va. -- Thanks to her first place finish at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, University of Delaware senior Katrina Steenkamer has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Female Runner of the Week.
Steenkamer, a fashion merchandising major from Rising Sun, Md. (St. Mark's High School), recorded her first career meet victory as she led Delaware to the team title at the Delaware Invitational. She covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:54.23, which topped teammate Betsy Erlanger by more than five seconds.
Steenkamer was the Blue Hens' top finisher for the second straight meet as she posted a sixth place finish at the season-opening Lehigh Invitational back on Aug. 29.
In addition to Steenkamer, William & Mary junior Carolyn Hennessey was named the CAA Co-Runner of the Week. She earned her first collegiate cross country title with a victory at the William & Mary Invitational.
On the men's side, Elon senior Luis Vargas was named the CAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Delaware will return to action this Friday, Sept. 19, when the Blue Hens travel to CAA foe Towson for a dual meet.
