Delaware Women's Cross Country Continues Action Friday at Towson Invitational

TOWSON, Md. -- Fresh off a first place finish at their own Delaware Invitational last Saturday, the University of Delaware women's cross country squad will continue action Friday, Sept. 19, at the Towson Invitational.
The Blue Hen women will be among four team competing on the women's side, joining the host Tigers, Shawnee State, and Bowie State. The men's section will feature Navy, Coppin State, and Bowie State.
The action will get underway at 5 p.m. at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md.
Delaware has opened its season with two impressive showings, placing third at the Lehigh Invitational on Aug. 29 and winning its own Delaware Invitational last Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.
Senior Katrina Steenkamer (Rising Sun, Md./St. Mark's HS, Del.) has led the team in both races, winning the Delaware Invitational and placing sixth at Lehigh. She was named the Colonial Athletic Association Female Co-Runner of the Week for her efforts this past week.
Head coach Wendy McFarlane has also received outstanding performances from several other runners. Betsy Erlanger (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed second at the Delaware Invitational while Blue Hen freshman Adrienne Fraczkowski (Delaware Military Academy/Wilmington, Del.) was fifth, sophomore Gabby Alaimo (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bridgewater, N.J.) was eighth, and freshman Alana Waggoner (Conard/West Hartford, Conn.) was ninth.
The Blue Hens are ranked No. 12 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll. Georgetown was ranked No. 1 followed by Villanova, Penn State, West Virginia, Princeton, Penn, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Navy, Lehigh, UMBC, Delaware, Bucknell, LaSalle, and Maryland.
