TOWSON, Md. -- After starting the 2014 season with 15 non-conference matches, the University of Delaware volleyball team opens the second half of its schedule on Wednesday as the Blue Hens kick off Colonial Athletic Association play at Towson.
Delaware, which is 7-8 on the season, will take on the Tigers at SECU Arena at 7 p.m. as both teams commence their conference slate. Towson is 13-1 on the year with its only loss to Alabama, and the Tigers carry a four-match winning streak into Wednesday night's contest.
The Blue Hens will remain on the road this Sunday when Delaware heads south to take on College of Charleston at 1 p.m. The Cougars will carry an 8-7 mark into their CAA opener on Friday vs. Towson.
Junior Katie Hillman continues to lead Delaware and ranks ninth in the league with 2.89 kills per set, while sophomore Autumn Jenkins is second on the Blue Hens with a 2.75 kills average. Alexa Swann has added 105 kills and leads the team with a .288 attack percentage while Chandler Bryant, who was named to the Pitt Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team last weekend, has recorded 99 kills to go with a .265 attack percentage.
Sophomore Erin Layne ranks sixth in the conference by handing out 5.93 assists per set, while classmate Taylor Hollingsworth is second in the CAA with 4.98 digs per set.
Delaware holds a 38-36 lead in the all-time series with Towson, with each team winning on the other's home court last year. This season marks the fifth consecutive year that Delaware will kick off CAA play against the Tigers. The Cougars, who captured the 2013 CAA title, have won four of five all-time meetings with the Blue Hens, including both matchups last season.
