University of Delaware Volleyball Drops Colonial Athletic Association Opener at Towson, 3-0

TOWSON, Md. -- Three Towson players reached double digit kills as the Tigers posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 31-29) victory over the University of Delaware volleyball team in both squads' Colonial Athletic Association opener Wednesday night at SECU Arena.
Towson, which won its fifth consecutive match, improved to 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the league following the straight set victory. The Blue Hens, who dropped their fifth in a row, fell to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the CAA.
Saitaua Iosia posted a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs for Towson, while Haley Pa'akaula and Victoria Williams added 11 kills each. The Tigers, who received eight blocks from Candace Williams, hit .296 on the night.
Delaware junior Katie Hillman slammed 10 kills against just one attack error as she hit .310 for the match, while Alexa Swann added nine kills and Jill Meyers chipped in with six. Erin Layne handed out a team-high 20 assists while Julia Anderson contributed 14, and Taylor Hollingsworth again led the UD backline by posting 14 digs.
The Tigers raced out to a 13-3 lead and were never threatened in the opening set, and after they led by just a point at 18-17 in the second, the Tigers closed the frame by winning seven of final 10 points to go up two sets.
Bonnie KennyDelaware will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at defending CAA champion College of Charleston.
