University of Delaware Volleyball Drops Straight Set Match at College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Cara Howley recorded a match-high 10 kills as the College of Charleston volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over the University of Delaware Sunday afternoon at TD Arena.
The Cougars, who improved to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, captured the match by set scores of 27-25, 25-19, 25-21. The Blue Hens dropped their fifth straight contest while falling to 7-10 overall and 0-2 in league play.
UD junior Jill Meyers paced the Blue Hens with nine kills and a .240 attack percentage, while sophomore Autumn Jenkins added eight kills against just one attack error. Sophomore Erin Layne recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs, while classmate Taylor Hollingsworth made a team-best 13 digs and Katie Hillman chipped in 10.
In addition to Howley's 10 kills, Sloan White and Krissy Mummey each added nine for CofC, which hit .252 for the match. Kallie McKown contributed 21 digs and 20 assists for the Cougars, while Andi Zbojniewicz added 17 digs.
Delaware trailed 16-12 in the opening set, but countered by winning nine of the next 10 points to take a 21-17 advantage. The Blue Hens had a pair of set points at 24-22, but CofC responded by taking five of the final six points to win the set.
UD trailed by as many as nine points in the second stanza, before using an 8-2 spurt to pull within 17-14. However the Blue Hens would not get closer as they fell behind two sets to none. Delaware led by four points in the third set, but after the Cougars pulled even at 13-13, they ran off the next three points and did not trail again.
Delaware remains on the road next weekend as the Blue Hens travel to Northeastern on Friday and Hofstra on Sunday.
