OLEAN, N.Y. -- Blue Hen sophomore All-American Guillermo Delgado recorded his second consecutive two-goal game as the University of Delaware men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 shutout at St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Blue Hens, who improved to 4-0 on the year with three clean sheets, have won their opening four matches for the first time since the 1972 season. St. Bonaventure was playing its season opener and fell to 0-1 on the campaign.
Delgado, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year who was selected to the Hermann Award Watch List, followed up his two-goal performance during Thursday's win over Iona by putting two more in the back of the net Sunday. He opened the scoring just 8:21 into the contest, knocking home a shot from the right side just outside the box.
The Blue Hens maintained their one-goal advantage until seven minutes into the second half, when Joe Dipre scored off a feed from Kyle Bruno. Delgado then capped the scoring with just 35 seconds to play with a goal off a pass from Ignacio Martin.
Meanwhile UD goalkeeper Borja Barbero made three saves to record his third shutout of the season, as the senior has yet to allow a goal in 270 minutes of action this year.
Delaware, ranked No. 20 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Poll and receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25 Poll, returns home on Wednesday to host Seton Hall at 7 p.m. at Grant Stadium.
