NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team opens a five-match homestand this weekend as the Blue Hens will face James Madison and Towson at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
UD will take on the Dukes on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a pair of key CAA matches. Friday's contest will be video streamed on www.bluehens.com, while live stats will be available for both matches.
The Blue Hens are an even 5-5-1 on the season, including an 0-1-1 mark in conference play. UD kicked off its league season down South last weekend, falling to Charleston, 1-0, before earning a 2-2 draw with UNCW. Michelle Burnett scored Delaware's first goal against the Seahawks off an assist from Riley Curtin, while Krista Trinidad scored the final tally off an Allison Slark feed. Kailyn Rekos made a career-high eight saves in goal to help the Blue Hens earn the draw.
Curtin now leads Delaware and is tied for second in the CAA with five assists on the year, while she is also second on the squad with nine points. Natalie Zelenky continues to lead the Blue Hens with seven goals, tied for second most in the conference.
James Madison enters Friday's match with a 7-4 mark, and the Dukes opened their conference slate with a 2-1 triumph over Towson last Friday in Harrisonburg. Ashley Herndon scored the first goal of the match, while Allie Brunner added a tally a minute and a half later for an insurance goal. Herndon currently is tied for second in the CAA with seven goals and ranks third with 18 points, while Kelly Kerrigan is tied for the conference lead with six assists.
The Tigers are 6-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the CAA heading into their match at Drexel on Friday. Natalia Pinkney leads Towson with five goals and 11 points while Taylor Sebolao has posted five shutouts for the Tigers, who have allowed just seven goals in 11 matches.
James Madison leads the all-time series with Delaware, 8-4-2, although the Blue Hens posted a 1-0 victory over the Dukes in Newark last year. UD is 14-8-1 all-time vs. Towson, and the Blue Hens had defeated the Tigers in four consecutive matches before a 1-0 home setback to Towson in 2014.
