HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – With less than two minutes remaining in double overtime, Harri Hawkins posted the game-winning goal in the 109th minute to push No. 14 Hofstra past Delaware, 1-0, at HU Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, the Hens fall to 4-6-2 on the year and 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play while the Pride improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the league.
Junior Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) registered a game-high six shots for Delaware.
Redshirt freshman Todd Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) collected two saves in the net while senior Nick DiRienzo (Hockessin, Del./Wilmington Charter) tallied a defensive save.
Patric Pray recorded five saves for Hofstra while Joseph Holland picked up the assist on the game-winning goal.
“This was a devastating loss for us, particularly in the manner in which we conceded with 90 seconds left in double overtime. To be that close with a Top-20 team and to do so well for so long and to go down like that is tough. This would have been an important point for us in a very tough conference.”
