ELON, N.C. -- Five Blue Hens recorded at least eight kills as the University of Delaware volleyball team picked up its first Colonial Athletic Association victory of the season on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over Elon at Alumni Gym.

The Blue Hens, who improved to 9-9 overall and 1-4 in league play, captured the match by set scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 29-27. Elon, which dropped its seventh consecutive match, fell to 3-16 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

UD senior Chandler Bryant paced the Blue Hen attack with a match-high 14 kills on just 23 swings will committing only three errors, as she hit .478 on the night. Katie Hillman added 13 kills during the victory, while Autumn Jenkins added a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs.

Alexa Swann had nine kills while Raven Luckett added eight for Delaware, which hit .205 for the evening. Erin Layne handed out 26 assists and Julia Anderson contributed 23 for the Blue Hens, while Ariel Shonk posted a match-best 25 digs as she went over 1,700 for her career.

Sydney Busa led Elon with eight kills, while Sydel Curry dished out 40 assists and Maddie Jaudon notched 19 digs.

The first set was tight early on, but after Delaware held a slim 13-12 lead, the Blue Hens closed the set by winning 12 of the final 15 points to take the opening frame by 10 points. Elon trailed 23-22 in the second set but captured the next three points to pull even at a set apiece, and the Phoenix then won the first five points of the third frame to continue its momentum.

However Delaware slowly clawed back into the set, and eventually took a 14-11 lead on a service ace by Layne. The stanza was tied at 21-21 but the Blue Hens then took three straight points, and following an Elon point, Hillman blasted a kill to give UD the set.

UD led by as many as five points in the fourth set, but the Phoenix rallied back to pull even at 25-25. The teams were still tied at 27-27, but a Hillman kill and an Elon attack error gave the Blue Hens the match.

Delaware will look for its second consecutive victory on Monday when the Blue Hens take on William & Mary at 2 p.m. at Kaplan Arena.
