ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) clinched her first career tournament title this past weekend as the Blue Hens competed at the Sixth Annual Navy Blue & Gold Invitational.
Komer went 4-0 in the Singles Flight D and opened play with a 7-5, 6-3 victory versus Navy's Summer Ralston. The freshman followed with wins over Mina Saygi (George Mason), 6-1, 6-0, and Rianna van Son (LIU), 6-4, 6-0 before defeating Egle Jakuciunate (George Washington), 7-6 (6), 6-3 in the final match.
Sophomore Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) also finished the weekend with a winning record after going 3-2 in Flight A Singles and earning a spot in the consolation finals.
In doubles action, Komer and Shuren paired to go 2-1 in Flight A before falling in the semifinals.
Junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and freshman Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) also went 2-1 in Doubles Flight B with the lone loss coming in the semifinal match.
“This was another great weekend of play for the Blue Hens. We look forward to ITA Regionals this coming week to cap off the fall season.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens are 41-35 in singles action and 16-13 in doubles play.
· Delaware is 14-3 overall in No. 4 singles.
· Sara Komer and Arielle Shuren are 5-1 in doubles action this season.
