Blue Hens Back Home To Host Hofstra, Northeastern This Weekend

NEWARK, Del. -- After playing four consecutive matches on the road, the University of Delaware volleyball team returns home this weekend for a pair of crucial Colonial Athletic Association matchups with Hofstra and Northeastern.
The Blue Hens will face Hofstra on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Sports Building, and will host Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center. Live video and live stats will be available for both contests.
Delaware enters the weekend at 9-10 overall and 1-5 in league play, and is coming off a three-set loss at William & Mary on Monday. Junior Alexa Swann led UD with 11 kills, a match-high five blocks and reached double figure kills for the eighth time this season, while Katie Hillman posted a team-high of 15 digs. Swann currently ranks fourth in the CAA with a .326 attack percentage, while classmate Julia Anderson is third in the league by averaging 9.13 assists per set.
Ariel Shonk, who ranks third in UD history with 1,723 career digs, currently leads the CAA and ranks 17th in Division I with 5.16 digs per set this season.
Hofstra carries a 14-8 overall and 5-2 CAA record into Friday's contest, as the Pride had won five straight before road losses to Towson and James Madison last week. The Pride currently leads the nation with 1,126 assists and 1,198 kills, while setter Hannah Klemm leads Division I with 1,026 assists and recently became the fourth player in program history to reach 3,000 career helpers. Leticia Valente ranks second in the CAA with a .344 hitting percentage, while Veronika Kostova is also second in the league with 3.79 kills per set.
Northeastern will enter Sunday's match at 4-17 overall and 1-5 in the league, as the Huskies have dropped four consecutive matches and are winless in eight road contests this year. Brigitte Burcescu leads Northeastern and ranks sixth in the CAA with 3.27 kills per set, while Ashlee Asada is posting a team-high 3.19 digs average.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Delaware, 47-19, and the Pride swept both matches from the Blue Hens last year. UD has won 15 of its last 18 matches with Northeastern, including both last season.
Friday match vs. Hofstra will be 90's night, as fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite 90's ensemble and rock out to music from that decade during the match. The contest will take place at the former full-time home of the Blue Hens, the Carpenter Sports Building, on north campus. Fans will be able to purchase tickets at the door for the match (cash only), while seating is limited and subject to availability. Doors open at 6 p.m.; standing room only will be offered once the bleachers are full.
The address for GPS is 26 North College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716. Complimentary parking is available in Lot 19 (map above). Additional parking is also available in the Trabant Garage at a cost of $2/hour per car (maximum of $5). All other University lots require a standard UD parking permit.
Sunday's matchup with Northeastern at the Bob Carpenter Center will be a White Out, as free white t-shirts will be given to the first 200 fans in attendance, courtesy of First State Orthopaedics.
