Blue Hens Use Strong Attack To Post Four-Set Win Over Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team dropped the first set but rebounded to win three straight as the Blue Hens recorded a 3-1 victory over Northeastern Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware, which improved to 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association, captured the match by set scores of 14-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-20. The Huskies dropped their fifth straight while falling to 4-18 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Chandler Bryant (below) posted 11 kills for the Blue Hens and Lauren Talley set a career-high with 11 of her own, while Alexa Swann (left) contributed 10 kills and a match-best seven blocks. Julia Anderson posted a double-double with 27 assists and 13 digs, while Taylor Hollinsgworth and Katie Hillman contributed 11 digs apiece for Delaware.
Laynie Whitehead led Northeastern with 12 kills, while Gabrielle Eyl added a team-high 21 digs.
The Huskies did not trail in taking the opening set by 11 points, but Delaware controlled the match from there. After falling behind 16-14 in the second frame, the Blue Hens closed the stanza with an 11-3 run to capture the set by six points.
UD then dominated the third set, taking an early 6-1 lead and cruising from there. The Blue Hens led by nine at 21-12, before ending the frame with four consecutive points to go in front by a set. Delaware never trailed in the fourth stanza, finally putting the match away on a kill from Talley.
Delaware is back in action on Wednesday when the Blue Hens head to Towson for a 7 p.m. match with the Tigers.
