TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will hit the road to face its longtime rival Towson on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match in SECU Arena.
Delaware improved to 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association with a four-set victory over Northeastern at home on Sunday. Chandler Bryant and Lauren Talley posted 11 kills for the Blue Hens during the match, as Talley reached double figure kills for the first time in her career. Alexa Swann had a match best seven blocks for UD, while Julia Anderson posted her second double-double of the season with 27 assists and 13 digs.
Katie Hillman leads Delaware with 212 kills this year, and needs just seven more to reach 1,200 for her career. Ariel Shonk continues to pace the Blue Hen defense with 419 digs, an average of 5.17 per set which leads the CAA and ranks 15th nationally.
Towson will enter Wednesday's match at 19-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference after its first ever win over the College of Charleston on Sunday. The Tigers had four players post double-double performances that contributed to the win, while Anna Holehouse led Towson with a team-high of 18 digs during the match to increase her total to 406 for the season.
Holehouse had a career-high of 30 digs earlier in the season when the Tigers defeated the Blue Hens in five sets on Sept. 27 at the Bob Carpenter Center. Jessica Lewis led Towson with 26 kills during that match, while Haley Pa'akaula added 21 on the day. The Tigers currently lead the CAA in hitting percentage, assists, kills and digs.
The Tigers, currently tied for second place in the conference two matches behind leader James Madison, will host the Hens to begin a five-match homestand. This will be Delaware and Towson's 78th all-time meeting, while the Tigers have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Blue Hens including four straight.
