Two Home Tournaments Highlight Delaware Softball 2016 Schedule

John Seneca who is beginning his first season as head coach, open the season in Buies Creek, N.C. on Feb. 12-13 for the Campbell Tournament where they will face Presbyterian and the host Camels for four games.
The following weekend UD will head to Miami, Fla. for the FIU Tournament, where it will take on Holy Cross, Indiana and host FIU. After returning home the Blue Hens will make the flight back to FIU, playing Siena, Central Connecticut and the host Panthers on Feb. 26-28.
UD then returns home to host the Blue Hen Blast Tournament on Mar. 4-6, as the Hens will welcome Delaware State, Norfolk State and Bucknell to Newark. Delaware will play its home opener on Mar. 4 when its faces Delaware State at 12:30 p.m. and Norfolk State at 3 p.m. at the UD Softball Stadium.
The following weekend UD will remain at home to host its annual Delaware Spring Invitational, as the Blue Hens will take on North Carolina A&T, Albany and Villanova.
Following a road doubleheader against Saint Joseph's on Mar. 19, Delaware hosts Monmouth on Mar. 23 and opens its Colonial Athletic Association slate with a three-game series against College of Charleston on Mar. 25-26.
UD then plays at Morgan State on Mar. 30 before hosting a conference series against Drexel on Apr. 2-3 and a non-league twinbill vs. Delaware State on Apr. 6. The following weekend UD plays a road series against UNCW, prior to a mid-week single game at Rider on Apr. 13.
The Blue Hens are back home to face Hofstra in a three-game series on Apr. 16-17 before traveling the following weekend to play James Madison on Apr. 23-24. The stretch will be challenging for UD, as the Pride won the CAA tournament title last spring while the Dukes did not lose a conference regular season game.
Delaware returns home Apr. 26 to play a doubleheader against non-league foe Mount St. Mary's, while the Hens will play their final CAA road series by traveling to Towson on Apr. 30-May 1. Following a mid-week doubleheader against Lehigh on May 4, Delaware ends its regular season at the UD Softball Stadium on May 6-7 for a three-game series against Elon.
The Blue Hens hope to return to the CAA Tournament, which will again feature the top four teams and will be held on May 11-13 on the campus of the league's regular season champion.
Delaware returns 17 letterwinners and welcomes two newcomers as the Blue Hens look to improve on their 2015 season when UD finished 30-23 overall and 6-14 in the CAA. Returning for the Blue Hens will be sophomore Mariah Kondravy, who belted a UD single season record 15 home runs as a freshman while earning first team All-Northeast Region and second team All-CAA honors.
The Hens also return sophomore shortstop Leanna Gearhart, who joined Kondravy on the CAA All-Rookie Team and tied for the Division I lead with 11 triples a year ago. Lisa Stacevicz batted a team-high .392 for the Blue Hens, who set UD single season records for runs, doubles, homers and RBI in 2015.
Carolyn Szymanski will look to pace the pitching staff after going 17-13 with a 2.93 earned run average in the circle last season while Kiersten Coffman, Kelly Lupton, and Jordan Cargile will also be key components of the UD staff.
