Delaware Volleyball Hosts Elon, William & Mary This Weekend

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team returns home this weekend as the Blue Hens will face Elon and William & Mary in a pair of key conference matches at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Blue Hens, who are 11-12 overall and 3-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association, will take on the Phoenix on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Tribe on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available for both contests.
Delaware currently resides in sixth place in the league standings as the Blue Hens look to qualify for the six-team CAA Tournament which will be held on Nov. 20-22 on the campus of the regular season champion. William & Mary and Elon are each 2-9 in the conference, sitting a game and a half behind UD in the race for the final spot.
The Blue Hens split a pair of road matches last week, posting a dramatic five-set comeback win at Towson before a three-set loss to league-leading James Madison on Sunday. Alexa Swann paced UD against the Dukes with 11 kills and a .588 attack percentage, while Autumn Jenkins contributed seven kills and 10 digs. Ariel Shonk tied Jenkins for the team lead with 10 digs, while her 1,808 career total is the 13th most among active Division I players.
Swann ranks fourth in the CAA with a .323 hitting percentage and fifth with 1.10 blocks per set this season, while Chandler Bryant is fifth in the conference with a .312 attack percentage. Shonk continues to lead the league and ranks 13th in the nation with 5.25 digs per set, while Julia Anderson is fourth in the CAA by handing out 9.00 assists per set.
Elon enters Saturday's match at 6-19 overall and 2-9 in the conference, although the Phoenix has won three of its last five matches including a 3-0 victory over William & Mary on Wednesday. Megan Gravley leads Elon by averaging 2.71 kills per set, while Sydel Curry is posting an 8.37 assist average.
William & Mary carries an 8-16 overall mark and a 2-9 league record into Sunday's match, as the Tribe has dropped four straight and eight of its last nine matches. Carolyn Albright leads William & Mary and ranks seventh in the CAA with a .276 attack percentage, while Sara Zumbach is also seventh in the conference with a team-high 3.69 digs average.
Delaware has won all three matches with Elon since the Phoenix joined the CAA last season, including a 3-1 victory in Elon on Oct. 10. The Blue Hens are 21-13 all-time against the Tribe, although William & Mary recorded a three-set triumph over UD in Williamsburg on Oct. 12.
Free t-shirts will be distributed to the first 300 fans at Saturday's match, and will be given to the first 250 fans at Sunday's match. Sunday will also be Military Appreciation Day, as local military (active duty and veterans/retired) are invited to show their military ID for one free match ticket and can purchase additional discounted $2 tickets for their families and friends. Additionally, the entire Blue Hen team will be signing postgame autographs following both matches.
