NEWARK, Del. -- After just a few days back in Newark, the University of Delaware volleyball team heads south again this weekend to face Elon and William & Mary in a pair of Colonial Athletic Association matches.
Delaware, which is 8-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play, will take on Elon Saturday at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym, before a 2 p.m. match with the Tribe on Monday at 2 p.m. in Kaplan Arena. The Blue Hens, who traveled to UNCW and Charleston earlier this week, are in the midst of a stretch that features UD playing four road matches in an eight-day stretch.
UD is coming off a narrow five-set loss to the Cougars on Tuesday, when Alexa Swann blasted a career-high 19 kills while Autumn Jenkins added a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Julia Anderson handed out a season-high 53 and made a career-best 16 digs for the Blue Hens, while Katie Hillman and Raven Luckett contributed 12 kills apiece.
Elon is just 3-15 overall and 0-5 in the league, following its four-set home loss to Charleston on Thursday. The Phoenix have dropped six consecutive matches since a 3-0 triumph over Savannah State on Sept. 12. Megan Gravley leads the Phoenix with 2.81 kills per set, while Sydel Curry is posting a 7.57 assist average and Maddie Jaudon paces the squad with 3.95 digs per set.
William & Mary, which carries a 7-10 overall record and a 1-3 CAA mark into the weekend, will host UNCW on Friday and Charleston on Saturday prior to facing the Blue Hens. Carolyn Albright ranks sixth in the conference with a .288 hitting percentage for the Tribe, while Sara Zumbach is adding 3.63 digs per set.
Delaware is 2-0 all-time against Elon, with a pair of three-set victories over the Phoenix last season during its first year in the CAA. The Blue Hens are 21-12 vs. William & Mary, and have taken 10 of the last 11 meetings between the schools. UD, which has won in each of its last seven trips to Williamsburg, also posted a pair of 3-0 triumphs over the Tribe a year ago.
