CAA Awards Six Blue Hens with Postseason Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team earned six spots on the Colonial Athletic Association postseason squads, as announced by the league Thursday evening.
The Blue Hens had three players represented on the First Team in juniors Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) and Thomas de Villardi (Vincennes, France/Lycee Notre-dame Guingamp) and sophomore Thibault Philippe (Saint-Brienc, France/Lycee Notre-dame Guingamp).
Senior Joe Dipre (Betchworth, England/London Freemen's School) was named with the All-CAA Second Team for back-to-back seasons while John Schroeder (Houston, Texas/YSC Academy) collected All-Rookie Team honors and senior Ben Sampson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) received the All-Academic Team nod.
Ian HennessyA two-time All-American and one of the program's three captains, Delgado earned First Team honors for the third straight season after posting a team-best 23 points on 10 goals (four game-winning) and three assists. He is currently second in program history with 84 points on 37 goals and 10 assists. His 37 goals are also good for second all-time.
De Villardi and Philippe each registered postseason accolades for the first time in a Blue Hens uniform.
De Villardi enters the weekend second for Delaware with 13 points on two goals and a team- and conference-leading nine assists, a mark that is also good for 15th nationally.
Philippe, another team captain, has recorded six points on three goals and anchored a Hens defense that has allowed just eight goals in the past 10 games in which Delaware went 7-1-2.
Dipre is third for UD with three goals and five assists and tied for fourth all-time in Delaware history with 15 career assists.
Another key member of the Delaware defensive unit, Schroeder started all 18games played for the Blue Hens in his freshman campaign.
Recently named for the third season to the CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic Team, Sampson is a second time member of the CAA All-Academic squad. An electrical engineering major and the team's final captain, Sampson has maintained a 3.98 cumulative GPA through is four years at Delaware.
Hofstra's Joseph Holland was named the CAA Player of the Year while Nathan Diehl (Elon) collected Defender of the Year accolades. Marcel Berry (William & Mary) and Ben Fisher (UNCW) shared Rookie of the Year honors. Richard Nuttall also represented the Pride as the CAA Coach of the Year.
The Blue Hens (10-6-3) continue CAA Tournament action Friday at Hofstra with a 4:30 p.m. semifinals matchup against Elon. The winner will advance to Sunday's Championship Final versus either Hofstra or James Madison.
