Delaware Concludes 2015 Season With Three-Set Loss To UNCW

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team saw its 2015 season come to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens dropped a three-set decision to UNCW by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware, which dropped its fifth consecutive match, failed to earn a berth in the CAA Tournament and ends its season with a 12-17 overall record and a 4-12 league mark. The Seahawks improved to 21-7 overall and 12-4 in the CAA as they finished in a tie for first place in the conference standings.
Blue Hen junior Autumn Jenkins (below) led Delaware with 14 kills on the afternoon, while Katie Hillman and Alexa Swann added five apiece. Ariel Shonk (at left) paced Delaware with 19 digs and Taylor Hollingsworth contributed 12, while Swann posted a team-high four blocks.
Nicole Lott led UNCW with 14 kills while Kristen Powell added 11 and Meredith Peacock contributed 10 for the Seahawks, who also held a 7-4 block advantage. Alyssa Desjardins and Bella Borgiotti combined for 35 assists for UNCW, while Lindsay Hartmann led all players with 28 digs.
The Seahawks used an early eight-point run to take control of the first set, while Delaware never got closer than five the rest of the way as UNCW jumped in front.
UNCW then won the first five points of the second stanza, although the Blue Hens pulled even at 12-12 after kills by Jenkins and Hillman. UD trailed by just a point at 18-17 later in the set, but the Seahawks then took five consecutive points before eventually closing the frame on a Lott kill.
The third set was tied five times, the final time at 19-19, but the Seahawks won the next two points and did not trail again. After Delaware pulled within 22-21, UNCW captured the next three points to seal the victory.

• UNCW defeated UD for the sixth time in seven meetings, including four straight
• Shonk finished her career with 1,932 career digs, second most in UD history
• Shonk's 5.23 digs average this year is eighth best in a UD single season
• Hillman finished her career with 1,264 kills, 11th most in UD history
• Jenkins reached double figures kills in for the 16th time this year
