Guillermo Delgado Nets CAA Player of the Week Accolades

NEWARK, Del. – Following a week in which the Blue Hens went 2-0, junior All-American Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
Ian Hennessy, who is in his 10th season as the head coach of the Blue Hens. “Guillermo is our top scorer for the third straight year and it is nice to see him get back to form after a long summer with the Seattle Sounders PDL team.”Delgado notched a career-best five points on two goals and an assist to guide Delaware (9-6-3, 5-2-1 CAA) past James Madison, 4-0, last Wednesday. The forward scored the game-winning goal in the 17th minute and then added the team's final tally in the 58th minute.
The win was the first for the Hens over JMU in Newark since 2009 and helped them earn home-field advantage for the CAA Quarterfinals this coming Saturday. Delaware added a 3-1 victory at William & Mary this past Saturday.
Delgado leads the team with 19 points (8g, 3a) and is third in program history with 80 career points through three seasons played in a Delaware uniform.
Drexel's Francisco Rodrigues da Palma and Elon's Matthew Jegier shared CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
Delgado and the Blue Hens return to the pitch at 7 p.m. this coming Saturday as they battle UNCW in a CAA Semifinals contest at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
