Delaware Softball Team Collects Food Donations on Halloween

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team held a community service effort on Halloween night as the Blue Hens conducted a Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat food drive.
The entire Blue Hen squad dressed in costume and walked door to door in the local West Branch neighborhood collecting canned goods for the Food Bank of Delaware, which is currently in a shortage of supplies. The team split into five groups, four of which were given a zone to collect cans, while the fifth group rode in the back of a hand-decorated pickup truck along with YoUDee handing out candy to trick or treaters.
The team went singing and cheering throughout the neighborhood, as the UD fight song played from the truck. After collecting the canned goods, the Blue Hens then went in costume to the UD volleyball match against Elon at the Bob Carpenter Center, where they gave out candy in the stands.
Last Tuesday five of the team members took the 486 pounds of food the squad collected to the Newark branch of the Food Bank of Delaware.
