BRONX, N.Y. – Delaware led by 14 at halftime, but allowed Fordham to come within one in the third quarter before holding on for the 55-48 win over the Rams at Rose Hill Gym Thursday evening.
The Hens outscored Fordham, 18-8, in the second quarter but eventually squandered that lead as the Rams held a 23-12 scoring advantage in the third. Delaware produced five of its nine turnovers in the period while allowing Fordham to more than double its first-half point performance.
UD then held the Rams to just two field goals in the fourth to pick up its fourth win of the year.
Junior Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) led the Blue Hens (4-2) for the second straight game with 15 points in addition to three rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and steal in 39 minutes of play.
Freshman Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) bounced back from a scoreless game against North Dakota State with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals versus Fordham.
Senior Jodi Salyer (Roanoke, Va./Staunton River) registered just three points, but they were crucial points in the fourth quarter off of free throws to put the game out of reach. The guard added a game-high four assists with three rebounds.
Hannah Missry guided the Rams (2-4) with 15 points, including four 3-pointers, while Samantha Clark notched a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
“This group is so talented, I love them, but they drive me crazy. They did everything they were suppose to in the first half. In my opinion, it was the best half of basketball we've played so far this season, especially against a quality team on their home court. In the third quarter, we didn't follow the game plan and shot ourselves in the foot. Fordham came rolling back because we didn't do what we needed to do defensively. Luckily we kept our composure in the fourth and we played defense tremendously. It feels great to be 4-2.”
Senior Jodi Salyer
“I think we got rattled a little bit and people started to lose focus. However, we were determined not to lose this game and we were able to settle down in the fourth. It was a team effort and did what we needed to do to get the win.”
