Jessica Grisler, Carolyn Szymanski Earn CAA Softball Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. -- Blue Hen senior rightfielder Jessica Grisler was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week while sophomore Carolyn Szymanski earned CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Grisler (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill) led the Blue Hens with a .600 batting average, 12 hits and eight runs scored as Delaware opened its 2015 season by winning four of five games at the Charleston Southern Tournament. She hit safely in all five games, including two hits and a leadoff homer during the 8-0 victory over Toledo in the season opener.
Grisler added two hits in Saturday's 11-6 victory over Howard, and went 4 for 5 with two runs scored in the 7-1 triumph over Charleston Southern later that day. She capped her weekend by going 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBI during Sunday's 13-6 win over Howard, and tied the school single game record with four runs scored. Grisler now has 185 hits and 103 runs scored during her career, both third all-time in UD history.
Szymanski (Middletown, Del./Caravel) went 3-0 in the circle with a shutout and a 0.88 earned run average to lead the Blue Hen pitching staff at the tournament. She fired a two-hit shutout and struck out five during Friday's win over Toledo, before allowing just one run on five hits and posting seven strikeouts in a complete game victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday. Szymanski then surrendered six runs, just one earned, and struck out three during Sunday's win over Howard.
Szymanski, who gave up just two earned runs in 16 innings of work, also went 4 of 11 at the plate for Delaware and drilled a three-run homer in the season opener. She shared CAA Pitcher of the Week honors with James Madison's Jailyn Ford, wile the Dukes' Megan Good was selected the league's Rookie of the Week.
