Record-Setting Coleman Wins Two Events, Mazzo Takes 1,000m at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Junior transfer Latazah Coleman captured both the 60 meter and 200 meter dash events, setting a school record in the 60 meters, and senior Melissa Mazzo won the 1,000 meters competition to lead the University of Delaware women's indoor track & field team at the Princeton Invitational Sunday at Jadwyn Gym.
Coleman (below), a first-year transfer from Rider and a native of Middletown, Del. (Appoquinimink HS), ran
her season win total to four this winter as she won the 60 meters in a season-best time of 7.59 and the 200 meters in a clocking of 24.53, tying her season best. Her time in the 60 meters broke the school record of 7.61 set by Michelle Gomes in 2007.
Mazzo (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) posted her first victory of the season as she won the 1,000 meters in a season-best time of 3:00.87.
Placing second for the Blue Hens were senior Amira Idris (Hylton/Woodbridge, Va.) in the triple jump (season-best 40-0.5), Liz McGroarty (Garnet Valley/Glen Mills, Pa.) in the 800 meters (season-best 2:16.31), and Megan O'Dell (Strath-Haven, Pa./Wilmington, Del.) in the 500 meters (season-best 1:23.22).
Idris had three top 10 finishes as she also placed fourth in the long jump (18-2.25) and eighth in the 200 meters (26.04). McGroarty also placed third in the 1,000 meters (3:12.31) while Latoya James placed third in the 60 meters hurdles (8.76), fifth in the long jump (17-6.75), and was sixth in the 60 meters (7.97).
Delaware will continue action Mar. 1 at the George Mason Last Chance Meet in Fairfax, Va.
