Dave Brock introduced one of the largest recruiting classes in school history as he announced Wednesday that 21 standout have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to attend UD on a scholarship and compete for the Blue Hens this coming fall.
In addition to the 21 recruits, Brock also announced that Jamie Jarmon, who played minor league baseball the past three years, is currently enrolled at Delaware as a freshman and will take part in spring drills beginning in March.
Brock, who took over the reigns of the program in January, 2013, introduced the signing of 22 student-athletes as part his first full recruiting class last February.
The recruiting class consists once again of players who hail from the traditional recruiting footprint that has defined the University of Delaware's football success throughout its history. This class includes some of the top young football talent in the region. The group includes student-athletes from eight states, including three Delawareans, seven from Pennsylvania, four from New Jersey, three from Connecticut, two from Virginia, and one each from New York, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
The list of newcomers also includes five defensive linemen, four offensive linemen, four defensive backs, three linebackers, two wide receivers, two quarterbacks, one tight end, and one running back.
Delaware again signed one of the most competitive classes in school history as 11 of the newcomers had Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) scholarship offers and 18 of them had other Colonial Athletic Association offers. The group includes 12 student-athletes who earned All-State honors, 17 earned all-area notice, and all 21 were all-conference performers.
A total of 18 student-athletes led their teams to conference, region, or state championships; 14 recruits served as team captains; and 11 earned special academic awards, including four who were National Honor Society students.
The group also includes a set of twins (Pat and M.J. Kehoe), six whose relatives have played in the NFL (Nasir Adderley, Bo Gipson, Vinny Papale, Justin Washington, Ray Jones, and Samir Bullock), including two Pro Football Hall of Famers (Adderley and Gipson), 14 who have had relatives play college sports, two who had relatives attend Delaware, a foreign born player (Tenny Adewusi), an avid boxer (Gipson), a trombone player (Collin Wallish), a former minor league baseball player (Jarmon), and one whose father had a Disney movie made about him (Papale).
“Signing Day is a great day for the University of Delaware football program, all of our signees, their families, and everybody who loves the Blue Hens,” said Brock. “We have added 22 critical pieces to our championship puzzle. These young men and their families understand that they are coming to UD to earn an elite degree and win championships. We are anxious to get to work with them and we are thrilled that they chose Delaware.”
Delaware completed its second season under Brock this past fall when the Blue Hens recorded a 6-6 mark, including a 4-4 slate in Colonial Athletic Association play. Among the victories were road wins of 30-23 over NCAA Tournament participant James Madison and 31-28 over an Albany team that had been earning votes in the Top 25 polls. Dave Brock Dave Brock
