Blue Hens Quartet Honored with CAA Postseason Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – With the regular season at a close and the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament on the horizon, the University of Delaware women's basketball team had four student-athletes recognized by the CAA head coaches for their athletic and academic accomplishments.
Sophomore Erika Brown (Haledon, N.J./Paterson Kennedy) collected All-CAA second team honors for the first time in her career while freshman Makeda Nicholas (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) was chosen as a CAA All-Rookie selection.
Senior Stephanie Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and sophomore Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) each garnered CAA All-Academic accolades.
Brown currently leads the Blue Hens and is fourth in the league with 14.4 points per game. Additionally, the guard has collected 1.4 steals per contest and is shooting 77.1 percent from the free throw line. She was named the CAA Player of the Week for February 2 after registering a career-best 31 points at Hofstra.
In her first season at Delaware, Nicholas has collected 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 points per game. The forward has started 17 games for the Blue Hens and has also registered 28 blocks.
Leon, a two-time team captain and international relations major, has been recognized as an All-Academic Team honoree for the third straight season. The center holds a GPA of 3.523 and has accepted a position with Teach for America following graduation.
Jardine holds a 3.13 GPA as a mechanical engineering major and has tallied 12.0 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game this season. The forward leads the CAA in three-point shooting percentage at a .438 clip.
James Madison guard Precious Hall was the unanimous choice as the CAA Player of the Year while Dukes head coach Kenny Brooks was named the Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Hofstra forward Ashunae Durant garnered Rookie of the Year honors while College of Charleston forward Bre Bolden was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.
