ANNAPOLIS, Md. – It came down to the final matches, but the University of Delaware women's tennis team was unable to pull out the victory as Navy defeated the Blue Hens, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Delaware (3-3) picked up the doubles point versus Navy (11-6) after victories in the first and second flights.
Senior Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) and freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) led off the day with an 8-4 win over Noelle Kaufmann and Mikaela Carlson in No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) and junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical) followed with an 8-7 (7-3) victory against Logan Antill and Katie Porter in the first flight.
Jonjic' gathered the Blue Hens' first singles win by defeating Amanda Keller, 6-4, 6-3 in the second spot while junior Nataliya Naumova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 98 School No. 1953) came from behind to collect a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 No. 3 singles victory against Porter.
“We came to play and left everything we had on the court. Everybody competed extremely hard today and it's one of those matches where it's a shame anyone has to lose.”
