RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman point guard Kory Holden was named the Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball Co-Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Holden (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) earned his fourth conference Rookie of the Week honor this year, tying the UD record of four set by Devon Saddler in the 2010-11 season. He shared the award this week with Elijah Bryant of Elon, while James Madison's Ron Curry was selected the CAA Player of the Week.
Holden averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 assists as Delaware closed out its regular season with road wins at Drexel and Towson. He shot 52.9 percent from the field during the week, including a 4 of 8 performance from three-point range.
Holden scored nine points, dished out eight assists and did not commit a turnover during Thursday's 58-44 win at Drexel. He then scored a game-high 17 points, including four crucial free throws in the final 23 seconds, to help Delaware knock off Towson, 65-60, on Saturday afternoon.
Holden currently ranks second in the conference by averaging 5.0 assists per game, and is seventh with a 1.5 assist/turnover ratio. He ranks 10th in the league by playing 34.0 minutes per contest, is 13th with a 74.8 free throw percentage, and ranks 16th with a 12.1 scoring average.
Holden and the Blue Hens, who finished the regular season 10-19 overall and 9-9 in the CAA, take on Northeastern Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore during the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
