NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team had a big week of giving back to the community this past week. Last Tuesday, March 17, the Blue Hens volunteered at Newark Parks and Recreation stuffing Easter eggs with all kinds of goodies for the annual Easter egg hunt that will take place Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at the White Clay Creek State Park Carpenter Recreation Area.
This past Sunday, March 22, was the UDance fundraiser for the B+ Foundation, which supports medical research for families of critically ill children across the country. The fundraiser took place in the Bob Carpenter Center, the home of the Blue Hen volleyball team.
Twelve hours of dancing later, the University of Delaware raised 1.3 million dollars. As a team, the UD volleyball squad raised $1855, as sophomore Taylor Hollingsworth led the way for the team by dancing the entire 12 hours.
All 12 members of the team were present throughout the day and they particularly enjoyed the B+ Heroes talent show which included their own FOJ (Friends of Jaclyn) honorary team member Olivia.
Another highlight of the day for the team was when junior Katie Hillman donated 8 inches of her hair to make a wig for a child in need.
Fans can follow the UD volleyball team on its twitter account: @BlueHenVB. The squad was very excited to receive a retweet from UD alum and Super Bowl MVP Rich Gannon on Sunday.
