NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware notched its second win of the season over Sacred Heart Friday as the Blue Hens downed the Pioneers 9-1 in a non-league baseball matchup.
Delaware (13-12) had its pitching and hitting clicking on all cylinders. The UD arms allowed just one run on nine hits, while the Blue Hen bats tallied nine runs on 16 hits and scored at least one run in every inning except the fifth.
Jim Sherman. “Adam Davis was not at his best early, but I thought he really became dialed in in the middle of the game and had really good location with all his pitches. The senior right-hander allowed one run in seven innings and struck out eight batters. Chad Martin and Luke Alicknavitch pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief to secure the win for Delaware.
At the plate, Norm Donkin and Zach Lopes recorded a team-high three hits, while Brock Niggebrugge led the Hens with three RBI.
The Blue Hens posted four extra-base hits in the winning effort including Lopes' second home run of the season.
