Hens Advance to CAA Quarterfinals Following 4-0 Win Over Hofstra

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The senior class came through in the clutch Thursday morning for the University of Delaware women's tennis team as the Blue Hens defeated Hofstra, 4-0, in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at the Millie West Tennis Center.
With the win, Delaware (6-8) advances to Friday's 9 a.m. quarterfinals match against the top-seeded host, William & Mary.
The Blue Hens quickly picked up the team doubles point with the No. 2 and No. 3 slots taking 8-2 victories each.
Freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and senior Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) defeated Louise Lopez and Bianca Derrick in the second spot while sophomore Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and senior Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) collected the win over Giulia Leone and Bianca Posa.
Martinez then earned the first singles victory of the afternoon by registering a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Posa in the sixth flight.
Fellow senior Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win versus Derrick in the fifth spot while Milla clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 score over Leone in the fourth flight.
“Everyone played so well today. “I'm very happy that all three of our seniors were able to finish their matches with a win. We're looking forward to playing a very difficult William & Mary squad tomorrow.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware previously defeated Hofstra, 6-1, last Saturday at the Delaware Field House Outdoor Courts.
· Kim Milla now holds 50 career doubles victory, a mark to tie with current head coach Laura (Leroy) Travis (1985-89), who is 13th in program history.
