Slane, who finished with a Delaware and CAA record three-round score of 71-71-67-209 on the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club course at St. James Plantation, concluded the weekend at seven under par to win medalist honors by eight strokes.
Slane entered the final day trailing by a shot, but quickly took the lead with birdies on the first two holes. She added birdies on 6 and 9 to finish the front nine at three under for the day, while her fifth birdie on 12 again moved her to three under.
Slane, a native of Temecula, Calif., then put the finishing touches on the championship with four consecutive pars, an eagle on 17, and a par on 18 to finish with a 33-34-67.
She becomes the second tournament medalist in Blue Hen history, along with Nathalie Filler at the Towson Tignanelli Invitational on Sept. 8-9, 2014. Her 209 total is the lowest three-round score in UD history by seven shots, as she broke her own mark of 216 set at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic this March.
“Having my first collegiate win at the CAA's is an amazing feeling - it means a lot, our team and myself have put a lot of work into this season,” said Slane, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer. “If there's one tournament to win, it's this one. Everything was pretty much going right today. My goal was to hit fairways and greens coming in, and I hit 15 greens and a lot of putts today. The last couple years I've had ups and downs and been injured, so this means a lot.”
Delaware posted a 298 team score during Sunday's final round, finishing in third place with a three-round total of 900.
The Cougars easily captured the team title for the second consecutive year with an 881 score, while Elon finished one shot ahead of the Blue Hens at 899.
UD freshman Rachel Lee fired a two over par 74 during her final round, finishing in 12th place with a 13 over par score of 77-78-74-229. Senior Amanda Terzian concluded her outstanding career with a 76, as she tied for 13th place at 79-75-76-230, 14 over par.
Junior Nathalie Filler finished in 19th place with a 17 over par 77-75-81-233 for the Blue Hens, while classmate Vimonthip Benjasupawan tied for 26th place with 23 over par 78-79-82-239.
The CAA Championship concludes a stellar spring season for the Blue Hens, who placed among the top three squads in each of their final four tournaments of the season. Delaware finished in the top 10 during every invitational of the 2014-15 campaign, including winning the Towson Tignanelli Invitational to open the year.
