CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team dropped its fifth straight match Thursday afternoon as the College of Charleston defeated the Blue Hens, 7-0, at the CofC Tennis Center.
The Cougars (8-12, 1-0 CAA) led off the day by winning the team doubles point with two 8-1 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Sophomore Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) forced the day's lone three-set match, but eventually fell short to Katherine Schofield, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, in the third flight.
“Although we didn't win any matches, we competed and left everything we had on the court. There are things that we will work on in practice based on performance, but in the end, Charleston was the more polished team. The sportsmanship from the coaches on down was exemplary, which made this what collegiate sports is all about – great competition with high integrity.”
